12:00 – 13:00 ‘WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT?’ TEACHING TEENS CRITICAL THINKING AND READING – with David Spencer (Macmillan Education)
*For Secondary School Teachers
Nowadays our teenage students have a great variety of texts and information sources just a click away. However, it’s clear to see that unlimited access to information brings risks, too. That’s why today’s teens need to be able to evaluate what they read and hear in a rational and open-minded way. In this session I will give practical classroom tips on how to get our students into the habit of thinking systematically and making balanced judgements about the texts that they are exposed to.
After studying languages at Oxford University, David Spencer trained to be a Secondary School teacher. He then moved to Spain where he has been living and teaching ever since. He continues to teach teenage students every day in a school near Madrid, or online from his home 😉. Dave began writing Secondary courses for Macmillan in 1994 and is the author of the best-selling Gateway & Gateway to the World series. Dave has given talks to teachers in twenty-eight countries. He is active on social media at www.facebook.com/macmillangateway .

*For Primary School Teachers
Quite often in the classroom we need ideas to create time and space for independent creation of texts that allow children to experiment with emergent writing skills without adult support.
In this webinar you will get cross-curricula ideas that provoke and stimulate children’s interest in writing. Stepping in the shoes of the students will help you get the most of the suggested activities and adapt them to suit the needs of your students. Learn how to use visual and oral prompts to support children’s thinking skills in structuring their phonics knowledge.
