Writing for Purpose to Enhance Writing For Pleasure – Creative Classroom Projects to Enrich Writing Skills

The purpose of this free webinar is to share practical ideas to inspire a love of writing in students to boost their confidence, and improve written communication across the curriculum.
Underpinned by the premise that writing for pleasure goes hand in hand with writing for purpose, the webinar will cover a range of fun, practical projects designed to involve and inspire the whole class (or school) across the curriculum.

From publishing a creative writing anthology, making a magazine, and hosting a literary festival, to writing newspapers set in different historic eras, writing a local travel guide, and creating a school handbook, the session will share ideas about how to structure such projects to engage the broadest range of students, along with ideas for off-shoot workshops to improve a range of writing types, and ideas for giving students a real audience for their projects.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Joanne Owen was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and read Archaeology and Anthropology with Social and Political Sciences at St. John’s College, Cambridge.
Passionate about inspiring a love of stories in young people, and experienced at delivering writing workshops to primary and lower secondary students, she’s the author of several books for children and young adults, among them the Martha Mayhem series, the Carnegie Medal-nominated Puppet Master, and You Can Write Awesome Stories, an activity-packed guide to creative writing.
Alongside writing for children, Joanne is an Editorial Expert for the UK’s leading book recommendation site, www.lovereading.co.uk, a publishing marketing professional, and travel writer for Rough Guides.
