From Speaking Tasks to Standing Ovations – with Macmillan Education
Focusing on how to teach public speaking rather than how to deliver a perfect speech, this webinar is designed for Enlish teachers who prepare students for speaking exams. The session explores practical ways of extending familiar classroom activities to include critical thinking, clear structure, rehearsal and purposeful feedback.

Public speaking competitions may often feel detached from everyday classroom practice. This session challenges that assumption by showing how to teach public speaking rather than deliver a perfect speech.
We’ll focus on how discussion tasks, opinion exchanges, and presentations can be scaffolded to support clearer message structure, purposeful peer and teacher feedback, and the integration of critical thinking strategies. Step by step, everyday speaking activities will then evolve into performances aligned with the demands of speaking competitions.
The session draws on concrete classroom examples and ready-made coursebook activities commonly found at B2/C1 level, demonstrating how you can prepare your students for public speaking contests without abandoning curricular goals or adding unnecessary workload. The emphasis is on transferable classroom routines that will help your learners speak with clarity, confidence, and impact beyond the classroom.
